LEAN RESEARCH FOR NON-RESEARCHERS
What it is:
Uplevel your team’s research game - prepare them to independently run quality, unbiased lean studies that deliver actionable insights
This is useful when:
You’re not seeing as much traction from research insights as you expect
Teams are not sure which insights to focus on or how to make insights actionable
You want teams making informed decisions based on real insights but you don’t want teams to spend too much time on research
You’re not confident in the quality of the research being done
You don’t see research being tied to business goals
You see teams running research in different ways and you want them to have a repeatable playbook for efficiency and simplicity
By the end of our working session attendees will:
Have run their first study and generated actionable insights
Have a repeatable toolkit they can use for any lean study
Know how to tie research to business goals, including when research is not needed
Be practicing lean research confidently and consistently, in a way that reduces bias and has impact
Know how to prioritize the most important insights from each study and how to communicate insights for actionability
Able to solidify learnings through post-workshop coaching
Details:
Workshop is 9 hours total, run as three 3-hour workshops (plan to attend all sessions). Topics:
Workshop 1: Planning a study
Workshop 2: Executing a study
Workshop 3: Synthesizing results and making insights actionable
1-hour 1:1 post-workshop coaching for each team
Workshops are highly interactive - you will practice skills towards a real-world problem.
You’ll alternate working individually and in small groups with other attendees. There will be plenty of opportunities for personalized attention
All workshop materials will be shared with your team: recordings and slides from all sessions, and templates for a research plan and a streamlined, actionable report
Attendance is open only to your team
NOTE: Workshop requires use of a remote unmoderated research tool like UserTesting.com, Userzoom, etc. If your team does not have a license for this type of research tool Carol can arrange a temporary license with another tool at additional cost.
How is this series different from other workshops to train non-researchers to run their own research?
Just your people. The team that works together daily goes through the workshop together, so their workshop partnership experience mirrors their everyday work experience.
Focused. The most common types of research that designers and PMs likely need to run are usability and concept tests. In this series we’re not trying to do too much, but providing the basis of understanding about all aspects of research (from planning, executing, and synthesizing, to making final insights actionable), while focused on the most common methods.
Practical, not theoretical. Teams run an actual study during the course of the workshop and get real feedback from Carol and a pro UX researcher along the way.
Actionable. Post-workshop 1:1 coaching helps the team solidify their understanding and addresses any lingering questions.
Also consider …
Compared to offerings by other orgs, this program is more focused (mastery of a lean research approach).
Other workshops in the marketplace are open to larger or unlimited attendance, with attendees from various companies in the same cohort.
Most programs offer limited or no 1:1 coaching, which is important to sear in the knowledge and be sure teams have absorbed how to make learnings actionable on their own.
